The United States has authorized a potential sale worth up to $1.8 billion for Denmark to acquire up to three P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, manufactured by Boeing.
The approval was announced by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) and includes not only the aircraft but also a wide range of sensors, electronic systems, training, and logistical support.
Planned equipment includes AN/APY-10 radars, MX-20HD electro-optical systems, missile warning sensors, defensive suites, advanced navigation systems protected against jamming, and electronic warfare management solutions. The deal also includes technical and operational support from the U.S. government and contracted companies for up to two years after delivery.
According to Washington, the potential acquisition would strengthen Denmark’s maritime surveillance and enhance interoperability with NATO. If the deal is completed, the P-8A would further establish itself as the alliance’s primary maritime patrol platform, filling a strategic gap in Northern Europe amid increasing focus on Baltic Sea and North Atlantic security.
