Turkey and Romania have established a partnership to locally produce 781 COBRA II armored vehicles in Romania.
The joint venture, formed between Turkish manufacturer Otokar and Romanian company Automecanica S.A., will be equally owned by both companies and will also operate in engineering, marketing, and after-sales support.
The agreement is part of a contract signed in November 2024, valued at approximately USD 977.98 million, for the supply of 1,059 armored vehicles to the Romanian Armed Forces.
Initially, 278 units will be manufactured in Turkey, while the rest will be produced by Romania’s defense industry. Deliveries are expected to begin at the end of 2025 and will take place in phases over five years, including logistics services.
The COBRA II is an 18-ton 4×4 armored vehicle designed for multiple roles such as troop transport, reconnaissance, anti-tank missile launching, and medical evacuation. With a capacity of up to 11 occupants, the vehicle offers protection against 7.62 mm gunfire, shrapnel, and mine explosions, thanks to its V-shaped hull.
