Turkey plans to develop a navalized version of the HÜRJET training and light attack jet to operate aboard the future MUGEM aircraft carrier, currently under development for the Turkish Navy.

The information was published by the Ukrainian outlet Militarnyi, based on statements from officials and materials presented by the Turkish defense industry.

The new model is expected to receive structural modifications to support carrier operations, including reinforced landing gear, an arresting hook, and adaptations for resistance to maritime corrosion. The aircraft is expected to perform both training and light combat missions from Turkey’s future aircraft carrier.

The MUGEM is Turkey’s main large aircraft carrier project and is expected to operate a combination of crewed aircraft and combat drones. Among the systems planned for integration are the Bayraktar TB3 drone, the unmanned Kızılelma jet, and now a possible carrier-based version of the HÜRJET.

Developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), the HÜRJET made its maiden flight in 2023 and was initially created as an advanced supersonic trainer and light attack aircraft. The program is considered one of the pillars of Turkey’s strategy to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers in the military aerospace sector.
