The 2025 4Runner will be available in 2WD, part-time 4WD, or full-time 4WD versions. The 2WD models come with an automatic limited-slip differential (Auto LSD), while the 4WD variants offer an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case, Active Traction Control (A-TRAC), and Auto LSD.

The TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter configurations include a standard rear differential with electronic locking, and the Limited model comes with an optional full-time four-wheel-drive system equipped with a central locking differential in the i-FORCE MAX models, which is standard in the Platinum versions.

The new 4Runner offers two options for turbocharged four-cylinder 2.4-liter engines, including the i-FORCE engine with 278 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, available in the TRD Off-Road and Limited and standard in the TRD Pro, Trailhunter, and Platinum models, combines the turbocharged engine with an integrated 48 HP electric motor, generating a total system power of up to 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque.
