Aptera Motors has announced the launch of its three-wheeled solar car, scheduled for this year. The vehicle, presented at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, uses solar panels on the hood, roof, dashboard, and trunk to generate up to 64 km of range per day.
Additionally, it offers a total range of 640 km with a charge of less than one hour. The two-seat car can reach up to 162 km/h and already has 50,000 interested buyers, with an initial price of $40,000.
Founded in 2006 and relaunched in 2019 after financial difficulties, Aptera plans to expand the use of solar mobility globally, with a focus on Germany and Spain. Co-founder Steve Fambro believes that technological advancements could increase the daily solar range to 160 km, transforming how we depend on the electrical grid.
While demand for electric vehicles grows, with forecasts that 65% of new car sales will be electric by 2030, infrastructure challenges still cause dissatisfaction among drivers. For example, there are not enough charging stations, which often leads to long lines.
Despite this, the prices of electric vehicles continue to drop, making this technology more affordable.
