A video that has gone viral features a motorcyclist experiencing the notorious ‘shimmy’ for ten long seconds that seem eternal. And of course, it teaches us some lessons.

In the video, the motorcyclist is seen riding recklessly on a highway aboard his Yamaha R6, weaving between cars while chasing another motorcycle.

Suddenly, the motorcycle’s handlebars begin to wobble uncontrollably. Oh no: you’re undergoing a dangerous and unexpected shimmy. For ten long seconds that feel like an eternity, the rider clings to the half handlebar as the motorcycle remains enraged and out of control. Ten long seconds where, somehow, he manages to calm the R6, which eventually stops shaking.

The shimmy is one of the effects most feared by all motorcyclists and rarely ends well. Hence the topic’s virality: to withstand such an onslaught for even a blink of an eye is hard, for ten seconds and without falling is almost miraculous, or rather, a mix of skill and luck.

If this happens to you, hold on to the handlebars tightly as you reduce speed. That was his salvation, so it’s a hefty dose of skill mixed with luck.
