Despite the excitement about the project, there is still no forecast for it to become a reality
Pangeos, conceived by the visionary Italian Lazzarini Design, is a project that proposes the creation of a floating city in the shape of a giant sea turtle.
The idea is to house tens of thousands of people who will sail across the oceans. The name “Pangeos” pays tribute to Pangaea, the supercontinent that existed millions of years ago. The choice refers to the ambition of creating a self-sufficient, secure city capable of traveling across oceans.
The turtle also has a meaning. It is associated with stability and longevity, meaning its connection to the project is to ensure a durable structure that can withstand any obstacle in the marine environment.
Pangeos is expected to have a length of 550 meters and a maximum width of 610 meters at the widest point of its “wings.”
To give an idea, the project would be twice the size of the Colosseum in Rome, Italy, and significantly larger than the world’s largest cruise ship, the Wonder of the Seas, which is 362 meters long.
The design features a hull in the shape of a giant turtle, consisting of nine “bows” (prows), subdivided into several blocks. The turtle’s legs will house a total of 64 luxury apartments on each side.
The upper part, called the turtle’s “shell,” will be used as a landing area for helicopters and drones.
Pangeos will feature hotels, shopping centers, parks, ports for smaller ships and aircraft, beach clubs, and resorts. In addition, the project includes the creation of a garden on the terrace of the structure.
Despite the excitement for a possible launch of Pangeos since its presentation in 2022, the project remains at a conceptual stage. To date, there is no information on progress toward the physical construction of the giant turtle.
Saudi Arabia is building a turtle-shaped yacht worth $5 billion.
Up to 60,000 guests will be able to stay on Pangeos. And for movement, they plan to take energy from ocean waves and solar panels located on the roof. pic.twitter.com/u04Lek9Dlx
