The United States Navy announced that the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye successfully completed air refueling tests with French aircraft, including the Rafale, A400M, and A330 MRTT Phénix.

The campaign, conducted in cooperation with the French Directorate General of Armament (DGA), marks an important step toward the aircraft’s entry into service with the French Navy and enhances interoperability among allied forces.

The tests confirm the E-2D’s ability to operate with different refueling platforms, a capability missing in the previous E-2C model. France has ordered three units of the E-2D, which will replace its current fleet by 2028, making France the second international operator of the aircraft, after Japan.

In addition to the refueling system, the French aircraft will be equipped with a computer developed by the local aerospace industry to allow for autonomous updates.

Considered an advancement over previous versions, the E-2D is equipped with a state-of-the-art radar that increases the range and accuracy of target detection. The aircraft functions as an integrated airborne command center, capable of coordinating complex missions, from airstrikes and ground support to rescue operations and networked communication.

For the French Navy, the arrival of the new model represents a significant modernization of its surveillance and control capabilities.
