Tesla is turning to vehicle rentals as sales of its electric cars continue to decline, according to the website Electrek.

Currently, the company is renting vehicles in at least two locations in Southern California, one in San Diego and another in Costa Mesa, but it plans to expand to more locations across the U.S.

Tesla is offering rentals starting at $60 per day, with a minimum rental period of three days and a maximum of seven days. The price may vary depending on the model of the Tesla you wish to rent.

The company is including free charging for its electric cars at Supercharger stations and fully autonomous driving with supervision at no additional cost with the rental.

If the customer falls in love with the rented Tesla and decides to buy a vehicle, they will receive a $250 credit if the purchase is made within a week after the rental ends.

Through the rental program, Tesla aims to attract new customers by offering the opportunity to drive one of its electric vehicles. The service can also serve as an additional revenue stream for the company, which has been facing declining sales since the beginning of the year.

This move comes as traditional rental companies, such as Hertz, stop offering Tesla cars and sell their fleet of used vehicles, as pointed out by Electrek.

This creates an ideal opportunity for Tesla to attract potential customers to its electric vehicles, who can now rent them directly from the company for a few days to take a “test drive” and evaluate the experience before making a purchase.
