Three accidents were recorded on the first day of Tesla’s robotaxi tests in Austin, Texas. The city is the only one currently hosting tests of the autonomous vehicles.
According to Forbes’ investigation, the accidents occurred on July 1st. Two of the robotaxis were rear-ended by other vehicles, while one simply collided with a stationary object.
A fourth accident was reported but was not counted because it happened inside a parking lot.
Tesla vehicles had traveled about 11,000 kilometers in testing and show a higher accident rate than Waymo’s robotaxis, which have recorded 60 incidents over more than 80 million kilometers traveled.
Passengers who wanted to try Tesla’s robotaxi service could request a vehicle through an app developed by the automaker itself. Rides have a fixed fare of US$4.20.
