The CEO of an artificial intelligence startup, Jesse Lyu, shared a frightening experience with his Tesla equipped with the FSD v.13.2.2 autonomous driving system.

During a turn, the vehicle mistook the road for train tracks, forcing Lyu to disable the autopilot and run a red light to avoid a collision with an oncoming train. He described the moment as “insane” and said he was “shaking” when he realized the imminent danger.

Lyu explained on X (formerly Twitter) that the incident occurred because the autonomous system made wrong decisions, something that had not happened with previous versions of the software. He tried to intervene quickly, but the situation was complicated by the lack of space to maneuver due to a nearby fence and curb. Faced with the immediate risk, he made the only viable decision: go through the red light and get off the tracks as fast as possible.

“The FSD v13.2.2 just drove me to a train line here in Santa Monica. Sending these video clips and hopefully you guys can fix it fast. (I was shaking and had to run a red light to save my life)”

The case sparked debate on social media, with some users criticizing Lyu for taking too long to intervene, while others called for urgent improvements to Tesla’s system. Although he acknowledged the progress of the autopilot, Lyu emphasized the seriousness of the issue and urged the company to fix the error to prevent similar situations in the future, especially with the upcoming implementation of unsupervised autonomous driving.
