Tesla has launched a new, more affordable version of the Cybertruck called Long Range, equipped with just a single rear motor and starting at $71,985 — about $10,000 less than the all-wheel-drive version.

Even as the entry-level model, it surprises with its range: it can travel up to 563 km (350 miles) on a single charge, increasing to 583 km (362 miles) when equipped with an optional bed cover. Performance is decent too, accelerating from 0 to 96 km/h (0–60 mph) in 6.2 seconds and reaching a top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph).

To hit this lower price point, Tesla made some cuts. The air suspension has been replaced with coil springs, the ground clearance is fixed at 24.3 cm (9.6 inches), and the sound system includes only seven speakers. The seats are fabric, heated but not ventilated, and the rear screen has been removed.

The Cybertruck Long Range also lacks the powered tonneau cover and several 120V outlets, although Tesla offers an adapter for the charging port that partially offsets this omission.

In terms of capability, the new version can tow up to 3,402 kg (7,500 lbs) and carry up to 909 kg (2,004 lbs) in the bed — lower numbers than the more powerful versions, but still enough for tasks like trailers or small boats.

Standard wheels are 18-inch with all-season tires, and there’s an option for 20-inch wheels with off-road tires, although that reduces the range by about 30 km (18 miles).

Although it’s more affordable, the Long Range is still more expensive than rivals like the Ford F-150 Lightning (from $49,975) and the Chevrolet Silverado EV (from $57,095), but it’s closer to the Rivian R1T, which starts at $71,700.

The model is already available for order, with deliveries expected in June or July of this year. Optional features include full self-driving for $8,000, a soft tonneau cover, floor mats, and extra storage compartments.
