Tesla has announced the layoff of more than 80 employees at its Texas Gigafactory, the company’s global headquarters, as its shares continue to decline.

The factory is the company’s most important production site, responsible for assembling the Model Y and Cybertruck. However, the site has been surrounded by controversy, including the recent termination of 84 employees.

According to the site Electrek, the layoffs resulted from an unexpected termination of Tesla’s contract with MPW Industrial Services Inc., a third-party company providing cleaning and maintenance services at the Gigafactory.

Even though Tesla has assured that the layoffs will not affect the plant’s production capacity, the recent announcement has raised concerns about future layoffs and fueled further rumors of a company crisis.

It is worth noting that in 2024, Tesla initiated waves of layoffs at the factory, cutting over 2,000 jobs. Since then, the company’s sales have been declining month by month, while Tesla appears to be losing market share in the EV sector to Chinese company BYD.
