A tense video was recorded by body cameras after a 19-year-old teenager stole a car and ran over a police officer on Sunday (17). New York police chased the young man across rooftops and streets in the city.
The young man was identified as Keyah Richardson and was driving a white sedan when he was stopped by officers. “Don’t move, don’t move, police!” shouted one of the officers in the video shared on X.
Richardson ignored the order and turned the car around, hitting a police officer. He drove through cars and streets before abandoning the car and fleeing on foot.
“They chased him on foot, all the way to the number 7 train line, from the platform to the street, into a building, up a staircase, onto the roof of a building, and jumped to a second roof,” said the officer in the video.
Richardson was cornered on a roof and then handcuffed. He has been charged with twelve crimes, including attempted murder, assault with a vehicle, and fleeing from an officer.
New York police reported that the injured officer is being treated at a hospital for minor injuries.
