The Switzerland announced an investment in multispectral camouflage systems to protect its armed forces from drones and modern reconnaissance technologies.

The Federal Office for Defence Procurement (armasuisse) has signed contracts with three European companies — SSZ Camouflage Technology AG, Saro GmbH, and Saab — following a series of technical and operational tests that evaluated performance, integration, and cost-effectiveness.

These advanced systems, known as MSTS, reduce the optical, infrared, and radar signatures of vehicles, facilities, and troops, making it harder for enemy sensors and cameras to detect them. This initiative is part of the country’s military modernization program and aligns with the Arms Policy Strategy approved by the Federal Council, which aims to strengthen the national industry and ensure access to the most innovative European technologies.

Multispectral camouflage represents a significant evolution from traditional camouflage, using materials that can absorb or distort electromagnetic waves across various wavelengths. This technology, already applied by companies like Saab and SSZ in various terrains, enhances the protection of Swiss forces and diversifies the defense industrial base, ensuring greater security and strategic autonomy.
