Sweden has awarded a $247 million contract to Saab for the delivery of a mobile unmanned system designed to protect both military forces and civilian infrastructure from drone threats.

According to UK Defence Journal, the order covers a modular mobile platform designed to detect and neutralize small to medium-sized drones. According to Saab, the system integrates its own sensors and effectors, along with selected third-party technologies, into a single interoperable solution that can connect to existing defense assets.

“With today’s order, Sweden will acquire an advanced mobile and modular unmanned aerial system. This technology enhances airspace security by detecting, tracking, and mitigating unmanned aerial threats and can be easily integrated with other systems,” said Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s Surveillance business area.

The system was developed in partnership with the Swedish Armed Forces and FMV to strengthen and complement Sweden’s existing air defense and counter-drone capabilities. According to the announcement, deliveries are planned between 2027 and 2028.
