Rebel forces in Sudan claimed to have shot down a military Il-76 transport plane near the town of Babanus on November 4th.

The aircraft, used by the Sudanese Air Force for troop and supply transport, was struck during the ongoing conflict against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). According to information released by Defence Blog, all occupants were killed in the crash.

Images posted by the rebels on social media show the wreckage of the plane, identified by the features of its fuselage and tail. Local sources claim the attack was carried out using a Chinese-made FK-2000 air defense system, allegedly supplied by the United Arab Emirates. The same aircraft model had been used previously in airstrikes against insurgent forces.

This is not the first incident involving military aircraft in the Sudanese conflict. In October 2024, the RSF claimed to have shot down another Il-76, which was said to have Russian crew members on board. More recently, the rebels also destroyed a newly integrated Turkish Akinci attack drone in the government’s arsenal, which is capable of launching guided missiles and bombs.
