Sudan’s Armed Forces shot down an enemy drone using another armed drone, in a rare episode of aerial combat between unmanned aircraft.

According to the website Defence Blog, the system used was the Bayraktar Akıncı, a combat drone developed by Turkish company Baykar. The aircraft is capable of operating at high altitude and carrying multiple weapons, including guided munitions and air-to-air missiles.

The interception video was shared by Clash Report and shows the moment the missile strikes the aerial target. The exact identity of the destroyed aircraft has not yet been officially confirmed, although analysts and users on military forums have speculated that it could have been a Chinese-made drone or even another Akıncı aircraft.

Experts point out that the episode represents an evolution in the use of drones in combat, transforming platforms originally designed for surveillance and ground attacks into aerial interceptors capable of hunting other drones without putting pilots at risk.

The civil war in Sudan has become one of the conflicts with the most intensive drone use outside Ukraine and the Middle East. Both the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) use armed drones for attacks and reconnaissance missions, increasing the importance of unmanned aerial warfare in the conflict.
