Subaru has revealed that its new compact electric SUV will be called Uncharted, with a global debut scheduled for July 17.
Although the name refers to the famous video game franchise by Sony, the automaker seems to have chosen it to emphasize the idea of adventure and ruggedness. A teaser image shows the vehicle covered in dust, but details like the dual spoilers and the shape of the rear lights indicate similarities with the electric Toyota C-HR.
The visual similarities raise suspicions that the Uncharted could share a platform with the Toyota model, which is plausible given the partnership between the two brands on other projects like the Solterra and the bZ4X. Older rumors suggested the automakers were working together on another electric crossover, and the Uncharted’s design seems to confirm this.
If the platform is indeed shared, the new Subaru is expected to inherit the C-HR’s powertrain, with a 74.4 kWh battery and two electric motors delivering 338 hp, as well as an estimated range of about 467 km.
The Uncharted will be Subaru’s third electric model, joining the Solterra and the Trailseeker, and promises to further heat up the competitive compact electric SUV market.
