A recent study by the American Automobile Association (AAA) has revealed that the majority of people are fearful of autonomous cars, with 66% of respondents expressing fear, an increase from the 55% recorded in 2022.

This fear has grown as public trust in the technology decreases. While there is interest in some driver assistance technologies, such as automatic braking and lane-keeping assistance, only a small percentage of respondents showed confidence in autonomous cars.

The study highlighted the unreliability of some driver assistance systems, showing that many failed to stop for pedestrians during automatic braking tests.

Furthermore, major companies like General Motors have faced safety challenges, contributing to the uncertainty surrounding the future of autonomous vehicles. Although Google’s Waymo has expanded its robotaxi service to Los Angeles, there is still a long way to go before the technology becomes commonplace in passenger vehicles.
