ST Engineering, a Singaporean shipbuilder, has launched the first Multi-Role Combat Vessel (MRCV) for the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN).

The MRCV Victory is the first of six MRCVs to be launched, with the remaining vessels to be delivered progressively from 2028. Future Victory-class MRCVs will replace the six current Victory-class corvettes in service with the Singapore Navy.

The Defence Minister, Chan Chun Sing, officiated the launch ceremony last Tuesday (21) at ST Engineering’s Marine Benoi Shipyard. The MRCV was launched by Sing’s wife, who acted as the sponsor.

“That is why we need new capabilities, working together as an integrated Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) to defend and protect our sea lines of communication and ensure that no one with bad intentions can disrupt our daily lives,” said Minister Sing.

“Today, our strategic lines of communication extend much further. […] This is crucial for our lives and livelihoods, and also for the global economy, given Singapore’s critical geostrategic location.”

The MRCV Victory will now undergo equipment tests, platform and combat systems integration, and acceptance trials. At the same time, the pioneering crew of the MRCV will begin training to prepare for the vessel’s operational deployment in the coming years.

The MRCV project reflects a strong partnership with the Defence Technology Community, including DSTA, DSO, ST Engineering, and other industry partners, to ensure the vessel can deliver the expected operational outcomes.
