Sener Aerospace & Defence, the Spanish defense company of the SENER group, completed the final demonstration of Europe’s first autonomous military convoy in Seville, Spain.

The event brought together senior officials from the Spanish Army, the Directorate-General of Armament and Material (DIGAM), and representatives from various European defense ministries, according to Defence Blog.

The demonstration was the final showcase of the company’s COMMANDS project and marked an important milestone in Europe’s efforts to integrate manned and unmanned vehicles in future ground operations.

The COMMANDS consortium, coordinated by Sener Aerospace & Defence and funded by the European Defence Fund, was designed to enhance the autonomy and efficiency of military logistics convoys.

The project aims to enable European forces to carry out supply and transport missions in high-risk areas without putting personnel in danger.

Organized by GDELS Santa Bárbara Sistemas, the demonstration featured autonomous ground vehicles performing coordinated logistics maneuvers, aided by AI-based navigation and perception systems.

According to Sener, the demonstration showcased the first unmanned logistics convoy with initial operational capability, a system able to operate with limited human supervision under dynamic battlefield conditions.

“This achievement, driven by Spain, strengthens Europe’s defense capabilities and represents a significant shift in tactical mobility and coordination among allied operations,” Sener stated in a press release.
