Spain has officially purchased 30 Hürjet jet trainers in a deal worth $2.83 billion, becoming the first international customer of the aircraft developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries.
The agreement includes Airbus leading the implementation of the Integrated Combat Training System, which will replace the F-5 fleet and modernize the entire advanced training process for the Spanish Air and Space Force pilots.
The program will be carried out in two phases: initially, the aircraft will be delivered in basic configuration between 2028 and 2029. They will then undergo a conversion process with Spanish national systems, with staggered deliveries between 2031 and 2035. The initiative also includes the creation of an Aircraft Conversion Center and the modernization of the training infrastructure at Talavera la Real, strengthening the local aerospace industry.
In addition to the aircraft, the package includes advanced simulators, ground training systems, and long-term logistical support. While the current contract mentions only 30 units, the Spanish government has already approved the acquisition of up to 45 Hürjets, keeping the possibility open for future fleet expansion.
