South Korea Unveils the Hyunmoo-V: The Most Powerful Non-Nuclear Ballistic Missile in the World

The South Korean Armed Forces recently showcased the Hyunmoo-V, regarded as the most powerful non-nuclear ballistic missile in the world.

The reveal took place during a weapons exhibition ahead of the military parade celebrating the Armed Forces Foundation Day, which will be held on October 1. South Korean columnist ハク Mason shared details about the display on his X account.

The Hyunmoo-V system, part of a line of South Korean strategic missiles, impresses with its power and range.

With an estimated weight of 36 tons, the missile can reach distances of over 3,000 kilometers when equipped with a light warhead.

However, its heavy warhead version, designed to penetrate deep underground, has an estimated range of up to 300 kilometers. These missiles have been developed with the capability to target underground command centers, nuclear missile bases, and other fortified facilities.

The cold-launch technology used in the Hyunmoo-V ensures that the engine is activated at a certain altitude after firing, making it even more precise and efficient. The missile’s warheads are made of heavy metals, optimized to ensure maximum penetration into underground structures using kinetic energy.

South Korea plans to acquire up to 200 units of the Hyunmoo-V, which will also equip the future Joint Strike Ship currently being developed by Hanwha Ocean. The Hyunmoo missile lineage, initiated in 1986, has been expanded and modernized over the years, becoming the primary strategic weapon in South Korea’s arsenal.
