Smart has released the first official images of the new #2, a concept for a compact electric model that marks the brand’s return to the urban microcar segment.
According to Car Magazine, the vehicle focuses on compact dimensions and a look inspired by Smart’s early models, combining retro design with futuristic elements. The #2 is expected to sit below the current Smart #1 and #3, larger models launched after the company’s restructuring in partnership with China’s Geely and Mercedes-Benz.
The new compact was developed to meet the growing demand for small and efficient electric vehicles in major European cities, where space and urban mobility remain key factors. The model also represents an attempt by Smart to return to its roots and recover part of the identity that made the brand famous in the 2000s.
“For me personally, it is a very special moment to present the #2 Concept as the first concrete perspective on the reinvention of our iconic two-seater car,” said Wolfgang Ufer, CEO of Smart Europe.
“It marks an important starting point for this new chapter of Smart, which will culminate in a strong highlight in Europe this autumn. It is a vehicle shaped by the way smart European customers really live and move — effortlessly, agilely and efficiently.”
Full technical details have not yet been released, but the Smart #2 is expected to focus on efficiency, low running costs and practicality for daily urban use. More information is expected in October, when the production version is revealed during the Paris Motor Show.
