A plane caused an explosion after hitting power lines while attempting to land at an airport in California (USA) last Monday (20).

A video that began circulating on social media shows the moment the aircraft struck power poles along Van Nuys Boulevard just a few blocks from Whiteman Airport in Pacoima.

Before reaching its destination airport, the plane ended up crashing into the parking lot of a nearby repair shop. As a result of the incident, the 70-year-old pilot had to be hospitalized, according to The New York Post.

According to local police, the aircraft was a single-engine Cessna owned by Vista Aviation and rented by the pilot. The plane was in the air for only 10 minutes before the crash. According to a witness, half of the pilot’s body “was crushed by the plane.”

The accident caused power outages in parts of the area, with KTLA reporting that crews were working to restore electricity on Tuesday (21). The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released a statement confirming that the incident will be investigated.
