The United States Air Force expects the second pre-production stealth bomber B-21 Raider to make its first flight before the end of 2025.

The program, considered a model for military acquisition, also includes ongoing testing of the nuclear cruise missile AGM-181 LRSO, which will be a key weapon for both the B-21 and the B-52 bombers. So far, four LRSO flight tests have been successfully completed this year.

The first B-21 flew in November 2023 and currently conducts about two missions per week from Edwards Air Force Base in California. The Northrop Grumman, manufacturer of the Raider, has also delivered additional fuselages for testing and has received contracts for the initial production of more units.

The program remains on schedule and within budget, with no artificial pressures on the team, according to Lieutenant General Andrew Gebara, Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Deterrence and Nuclear Integration.

The Air Force plans to operate at least 100 B-21s, with potential for future expansion, supported by additional Congressional funding. In addition to integrating the nuclear triad, the B-21 will also enhance the force’s long-range conventional strike capability.

Experts highlight that the aircraft will provide greater operational flexibility compared to current B-2s, whose limited numbers impose restrictions on simultaneous missions.
