A school bus caught fire during a route in New Orleans, United States, but driver Kia Rousseve acted quickly to evacuate all children, from kindergarten to eighth grade, safely.
The incident occurred when the bus started losing power and emitting smoke, leading one of the children to alert Rousseve about an imminent fire. Even without using the emergency exit, Rousseve managed to evacuate all passengers safely before the bus exploded.
The driver was highly praised by local authorities for her calm, commitment to the safety of the children, and bravery in the face of the crisis, being considered a heroine by the school and the school district.
Despite recognition for her heroic act, Rousseve decided to end her career as a school bus driver after reflecting on the danger she faced during the incident. Through social media, the young woman reflected:
“Hoje eu salvei minha vida e a vida de algumas crianças, meu ônibus pegou fogo esta manhã, mas nós saímos. Eu estou orgulhoso de mim mesmo. Eu tirei as crianças em 2,5 segundos, Deus realmente estava comigo. Eu quero realmente dizer que eu fiz isso sim, mas estou abalada, todos nós poderíamos ter perdido nossas vidas, mas não perdemos! Muito obrigada Deus”
