The last remaining Saab cars are about to be auctioned in Sweden, marking the definitive end of the automaker’s history at the Trollhättan industrial complex.

According to information from Car and Driver, the lot includes eight prototypes and pre-production vehicles that remained stored at the company’s former factory years after the brand’s bankruptcy.

Among the most important models are three 2014 Saab 9-3 Aero vehicles with low chassis numbers, considered some of the last cars ever produced bearing the Saab badge.

The vehicles were assembled during the brief attempt to revive the brand under the control of NEVS (National Electric Vehicle Sweden), the company that took over Saab’s assets after its collapse in 2011.

The auction also includes experimental prototypes developed in the following years, such as an electric Saab with a range extender, a model equipped with in-wheel electric motors, and even a test vehicle for autonomous driving.

Still according to Car and Driver, many of these cars were never registered and were used only for internal development and technical evaluations before a possible production phase.

The vehicles will be sold by auction house Klaravik between May 21 and 30, with no reserve price set. The auction closing will also feature a public visit to the former Trollhättan factory, considered a historic site for Saab fans.

“For us, this is a way to honor the Saab era. Saab continues to leave its mark on so many people and means a lot to so many [people],” said Nina Selander, CEO of NEVS, which currently owns the cars set to be auctioned.

“Even today, the brand undeniably holds a special place in many automotive hearts. By allowing the final remaining examples to move on with dignity, we want to pay tribute to Sweden’s proud automotive history.”
