Saab signs €549 million contracts with Airbus Defense to modernize German Eurofighter jets

Saab has announced that it has received two new contracts from Airbus Defense for the supply of Arexis electronic warfare systems, which will be installed on Eurofighter jets of the German Air Force. The information was released by the Swedish company in an official statement.

The total value of the agreements reaches approximately €549 million, with deliveries scheduled between 2025 and 2028. The first contract, estimated at €291 million, continues the agreement signed in March 2024 and includes the integration of the Arexis electronic warfare suite into the Eurofighter.

The second order, valued at around €258 million, includes artificial intelligence technologies developed by Saab in partnership with Helsing. This contract still requires approval from the relevant government authorities.
It had previously been reported that the Arexis package would be installed on 20 German aircraft. The system, renowned for its effectiveness in high-intensity scenarios, combines advanced sensors with self-protection mechanisms. Thanks to its modular design, it can be adapted to different combat platforms.

The Arexis system enables the detection, localization, and identification of radio emissions even under strong hostile electronic warfare interference, enhancing the survivability and situational awareness of the aircraft using it.
The announcement comes at a moment of steady growth for the Eurofighter program. The consortium responsible for the aircraft revealed that it has already delivered more than 600 Typhoon fighters, out of a total of 761 ordered. As of September 2025 alone, 613 units had been delivered, while the global fleet in operation reached 606 aircraft.
With hundreds of jets active across partner nations and international operators, the Typhoon modernization market has become highly competitive and attractive for European defense companies, including Saab itself.
