The electric motorcycle RW-5 Voxan, a result of a partnership between Ohio State University and the Venturi Group, broke four world speed records in a salt desert in Utah, USA.
French rider Louis-Marie Blondel rode the motorcycle, setting new records in the electric motorcycle category weighing less than 150 kilograms, both with and without fairing.
In its attempts, the RW-5 Voxan reached 271.5 km/h in a one-kilometer start and 271.3 km/h in a mile without fairing. With the fairing, the records were even more impressive, hitting 289.7 km/h in both distances. However, these records still need approval from the International Motorcycling Federation.
The RW-5 Voxan is equipped with a lithium-ion battery and an axial flow motor, generating 107 horsepower and 180 Nm of torque.
With a design optimized by the Buckeye Current student team and support from the Venturi Group, the motorcycle features a wheelbase of 1.68 meters and a length of 2.57 meters with fairing, highlighting advancements in electric vehicle technology.
