Syzran refinery suffers new Ukrainian drone attack and faces disruption in oil processing (X @front_ukrainian)
Ukrainian drones attacked the main refining unit at the Syzran refinery in Russia on the night of March 4, hitting the AVT-6 unit, which is essential for the refining process.
This unit is responsible for processing crude oil into products such as gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and fuel oil. The absence of this unit disrupts the processing of raw materials, and Western sanctions make repairs difficult and expensive.
The Syzran refinery, which has already been targeted in previous attacks, also suffered damage from drones on February 19, when a fire was caused by the destruction of the same AVT-6 unit. Another attack in March 2024 caused a similar fire.
The plant, located 700 km from the Ukrainian border, is owned by Rosneft and processes 8.9 million tons of oil annually, producing products such as gasoline, diesel, aviation kerosene, and asphalt.
Additionally, a previous attack on a Gazprom gas plant in Astrakhan in February also caused significant damage, putting a key condensate unit out of service for at least three months, suggesting that the Syzran refinery may face a prolonged disruption.
