
The multifunctional nuclear submarines “Krasnoyarsk” and “Omsk” of the Russian Navy’s Pacific Fleet conducted Oniks and Granit cruise missile launches against a maritime target during military exercises.
According to the official statement, the launches took place in the Sea of Okhotsk, north of Japan. The missiles struck a maritime target position more than 250 kilometers away, with all three projectiles hitting the target directly.
The exercise was part of a command and staff training conducted by the Unified Command of troops and forces in northeastern Russia.

The objective was to test the protection and defense of maritime communications in the northern Pacific Ocean, as well as along the coasts of Kamchatka and Chukotka regions and the island zone.
To ensure the safety of the operation, the Pacific Fleet deployed surface ships and naval aircraft and temporarily closed the designated firing area.
The exercise is part of the Russian Navy’s annual training plan and was considered the final event of the summer combat training cycle.
In total, more than 10 ships and vessels, airplanes and helicopters of the naval aviation, several nuclear submarines, and combat units equipped with K-300P Bastion-P coastal missile systems participated.
