Belarus recorded a record number of incursions by Russian kamikaze drones in July, with at least 96 such aircraft detected throughout the month, according to a study by the Flagstaff initiative.
Considering only the night of July 30, 26 drones were shot down in the country’s airspace. This volume represents the highest ever documented, surpassing the previous peak in December and far exceeding the numbers recorded between February and June.
Residents reported multiple sightings, including drones flying over regions such as Brahin, Homel, Mozyr, and Narowlya, as well as areas near the border with Ukraine. In 2023, a total of 145 Shahed-type drones were recorded in Belarus, of which 36 crossed into Ukrainian territory and 109 disappeared from the radars.
A separate incident drew attention at the end of July when a drone crashed in the outskirts of Minsk. Authorities stated it was Ukrainian equipment, but witnesses and activists from the BELPOL group contested this version, claiming the aircraft came from the direction of Russia, with the engine noise heard north of the Belarusian capital.
