On the night of April 10, Russian air defense accidentally shot down one of its own helicopters in the Moscow region after mistaking it for an enemy drone.

The incident occurred near the town of Naro-Fominsk, where residents reported a loud explosion around 10:30 p.m. Videos shared on social media show the helicopter being targeted by Russian military forces during an attempt to intercept what they believed was a threat.

This happened amid a wave of drone attacks across various regions of Russia, including Moscow, which may have contributed to the confusion. Official sources have not confirmed whether the helicopter was downed, suggesting it may have returned to base. Nevertheless, the incident reveals a lack of coordination between air defense systems and Russian military aviation.

At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have shot down 42 Ukrainian drones across different regions of the country and in annexed Crimea.

Using helicopters to intercept drones had already been implemented before, but similar accidents have occurred. In July of last year, a Mi-28 helicopter crashed during a similar mission, killing the entire crew.
