Starting March 1, 2026, all civilian drones in Russia will be required to transmit flight data in real time through the ERA-GLONASS system.

The measure, developed by the Ministry of Transport, aims to create a unified identification system, increasing transparency in equipment use and facilitating the enforcement of regional restrictions. The information will be accessible to regulatory authorities, security forces, and educational institutions.

For commercial operators, the service will have a monthly cost of US\$7.28, including data transmission, technical support, and communication. Based on an average of 60 flight hours per month, the fee amounts to about US\$0.12 per hour. The government expects to approve the regulation by December 1, 2025, and the legal framework for operating the system is nearly complete.

Experts suggest the tightening of rules may be related to the success of Operation Spiderweb, led by Ukraine, which reportedly destroyed a significant number of Russian strategic aircraft. This event has highlighted the need for increased drone control in the country.
