Russia unveils Ignis laser system on robotic vehicle for tactical demining (X @JohnH105)
Russia has officially unveiled the Ignis, its new combat laser system, mounted on an unmanned ground robotic vehicle called Kurier.
The equipment was displayed during recent military exercises and was reportedly used to destroy anti-tank mines at a distance without detonation, demonstrating the beam’s ability to disintegrate explosives.
According to Russian sources, the operational range of the Ignis reaches 200 meters. The compact, mobile platform is primarily designed for engineering and demining missions, reflecting Moscow’s focus on developing directed-energy weapons for battlefield use.
The launch of the Ignis follows previous Russian laser system projects, such as the Peresvet, which focus on air defense and counter-drone operations. Unlike these long-range strategic systems, the Ignis is tactical, aimed at supporting engineering units, sappers, and unmanned formations in operations near the front lines.
