Launched from a controlled area in the Luhansk region, the Su-57 entered Ukrainian airspace with support and fired the missile. However, due to a technical problem, the missile deviated from its target, falling in an uninhabited area.
Developed by the Sukhoi company, the Su-57 Felon is a Russian fifth-generation stealth combat aircraft, designed to engage targets on land, in the air, and at sea with high efficiency. Its debut flight took place in January 2010, with operational testing conducted in Syria in 2018.
Although the Kh-69 missile did not reach its intended target on this mission, previous records suggest its use in air operations on February 7 and 8. The Kh-69, an evolution of the Kh-59MK2, can be launched from various Russian air combat platforms.
It was also noted that the use of the Su-57 in an attack against Ukraine served the additional purpose of producing material for a military propaganda film. This material is expected to be presented as evidence of the “successful” development of the Russian defense industry in anticipation of the upcoming presidential elections in Russia.
