With a displacement of 5,000 tons (standard) and 6,600 tons (full), vessels of this class are currently the largest of their type built for the Russian Navy in modern times. Each unit can carry up to 300 troops and either 13 tanks or 36 armored vehicles (IFVs/APCs).
Commissioning Scheduled for 2026
The Vladimir Andreev is expected to officially join the Pacific Fleet in 2026, enhancing Russia’s force projection capabilities in the Indo-Pacific region.
Meanwhile, the Yantar Shipyard is also progressing on another vessel of the same project, the landing ship Vasily Trushin.
Progress on Other Naval Fronts
In addition to the launch of Vladimir Andreev, the Russian shipyard Admiralteiskie Verfi, part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, has recently launched the ice-class patrol ship Nikolai Zubov, under Project 23550.
The contract for this class was signed in 2016. The lead ship, Ivan Papanin, was laid down in April 2017 and launched in October 2019, beginning sea trials in June 2024.
