Russia has delivered to Uganda a batch of vehicles and military equipment valued at around $53 million. The delivery, carried out on October 26, was attended by Russian officials and the Ugandan political and military leadership.
According to the Russian embassy in Kampala, the shipment includes IMR-1 engineering vehicles based on Soviet T-55 tanks, GAZ-66 trucks with KUNG modules, and even a vessel transported by trailer.
Images released by the embassy show that the equipment is of Soviet origin and has been adapted for use in engineering and logistical support operations. The supply comes at a time when Russia is facing significant losses of its own military assets, raising questions about the purpose and terms of the agreement.
So far, Moscow has not clarified whether the delivery is part of a commercial contract or represents a form of assistance to the Ugandan government within the bilateral relations between the two countries.
The episode comes shortly after the arrest in Kenya of a Russian embassy official accused of recruiting local fighters for the war in Ukraine.
