The Romanian Armed Forces have received a new batch of 20 Cobra II armored vehicles, manufactured by the Turkish company Otokar.

The vehicles have already begun to be distributed among different military units across the country, strengthening troop mobility and operational capability.

The information was shared by Turkish journalist Muhammet Metin on his page on the social network X. According to the post, the transfer of the vehicles to the Romanian army took place on March 4.

This new batch is part of a broader modernization program for Romania’s land forces. In July 2025, the country had already received another 40 Cobra II armored vehicles, beginning the integration of the model into its military units.

The agreement between Romania and Otokar was signed in November 2024. The contract includes not only the supply of the vehicles but also local production in partnership with the Romanian defense industry.

In total, Romania is expected to receive 1,059 Cobra II light armored vehicles as part of a program valued at around €857 million. Part of the production is expected to take place within the country, involving facilities linked to the state-owned company Romtehnica.

According to the terms of the contract, Otokar also agreed to pay a penalty of approximately €40 million due to delays in the initial vehicle deliveries and in establishing the local production line.

The Cobra II is a 4×4 armored vehicle designed for patrol, reconnaissance, and troop transport missions, widely used by military and security forces in several countries.
