Romania is in negotiations with Ukraine to begin military drone production on Romanian soil.
The partnership envisions that the technology, developed by the Ukrainians based on real combat experience, will be used for the joint manufacturing of the equipment, with Romanian funding. Part of the production will be allocated to the Romanian Armed Forces, while another portion may be exported to interested European countries.
The agreement is being discussed between the defense ministries of both countries and is expected to be further explored in a future meeting between the heads of the departments. Although the exact location of the facility has not yet been defined, the city of Brașov is mentioned as a potential site for the factory.
Despite the interest, the project faces budgetary constraints: currently, there are no funds available for immediate implementation. Therefore, the expectation is that joint drone production will begin in 2026.
