British rider Sam Sunderland, two-time Rally Dakar champion, is preparing to face one of the biggest challenges of his career: breaking the world record for the fastest motorcycle trip around the world, which has stood unbroken for 23 years. The current record is 19 days, 8 hours, and 25 minutes.

To beat it, Sunderland will have to cross 15 countries on 5 continents, cross 13 time zones, and cover nearly 1,600 km per day over 19 days, all on the same motorcycle.

The attempt, which starts in September with departure and return in London, will demand extreme physical and mental endurance. Sunderland will face adverse weather conditions, jet lag, exhaustion, and logistical challenges while adhering to the record rules, which include touching two antipodal points and covering at least 28,968 km. Ocean crossings do not count on the clock, which will be paused during these moments.

For the journey, the rider chose a Triumph 1200 Rally Explorer, a robust model that should help him endure the long hours on the road.

Sunderland says he is motivated by uncertainty and the desire not only to break the record but to raise the level of challenge for those who try to surpass it in the future. The adventure will be documented by Red Bull UK channels.
