According to Kamyshin, the first unit of the Lynx infantry fighting vehicle will be produced in Ukraine this year. “Why the Lynx? It is one of the most modern IFV platforms. For our European partners, it is a good opportunity to test it in combat and improve it. And for our soldiers, today we need all the additional vehicles that will help them stay on the front line,” Kamyshin said, as quoted by Dumka.
He emphasized that the assembly details would be better known to the manufacturers responsible for the final product. For his part, Armin Papperger confirmed that the first infantry fighting vehicle in Ukraine will be produced this year. “This year we will have the first Lynx manufactured in Ukraine,” Papperger said.
However, Papperger expressed concern about the budget for weapons projects in Ukraine, mentioning that the budget planning is only for 6 to 12 months. He stressed that the political leaders of the countries must agree to increase funding.
The heavy infantry fighting vehicle Lynx, which weighs about 44 tons, was introduced by Rheinmetall in 2018. Its main armament is the LANCE turret with a 30 or 35 mm cannon and a launcher for anti-tank missiles, which can be equipped according to the customer’s needs. The crew consists of 3 people and the compartment can accommodate up to 9 soldiers.
The Lynx is protected against 30 mm projectiles in the frontal projection and 14.5 mm projectiles in the side projection. The underside of the vehicle guarantees protection against explosions equivalent to 10 kg of TNT.
The engine is a Liebherr D9612 with 1470 horsepower, allowing it to reach a speed of 70 km/h, with a range of 500 km on the highway.
