The next-generation RCH 155 self-propelled howitzers, intended for Ukraine, are being refined based on feedback from the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
German manufacturer KNDS reported that some technical issues still need to be resolved, but integration with Ukraine’s combat management system and logistical coordination is underway to ensure the vehicles are fully operational upon arrival at the front lines.
Plans to supply the RCH 155 to Ukraine began in September 2022, with an initial interest in 18 units. This number later increased to 54 systems. Production began in January 2023, and the first deliveries are expected to begin in April 2025, according to the company.
The RCH 155 is based on the GTK Boxer 8×8 armored carrier chassis and features an automated, unmanned artillery module derived from the PzH 2000, capable of carrying 30 rounds.
The vehicle weighs 39 tons, has an 815-horsepower diesel engine, and can reach firing distances of up to 40 km — or up to 52 km using special V-LAP ammunition. It is also compatible with long-range VULCANO and EXCALIBUR projectiles.
