The world’s first two-ton electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft received flight authorization in China last week.

The CarryAll V2000CG, developed by the Chinese company Autoflight, is an unmanned, fully electric aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight of two metric tons, according to the website Interesting Engineering.

With a payload capacity of 400 kilograms, a cruising speed of around 200 km/h, and a maximum range of 200 km, the aircraft was designed to combine the vertical lift of a helicopter with the efficient cruising flight of a fixed-wing aircraft.

The CarryAll V2000CG eVTOL became the first aircraft over one ton to receive all three major airworthiness certifications: Type, Production, and Airworthiness.

In a statement, the company said that Tuesday’s announcement represents a significant step toward the commercial implementation of low-altitude flight services.

Autoflight said the aircraft is suitable for cargo delivery, emergency supply transport, and disaster response missions due to its vertical landing capabilities that allow it to enter confined spaces.

“This is a breakthrough in technology and certification that brings large eVTOL aircraft from concept to reality. It marks a major step toward commercial use in real-world low-altitude and emergency logistics operations,” said Autoflight in a statement.
