Porsche unveiled the 963 RSP, a one-of-a-kind race car custom-made for Roger Penske, a legendary figure in motorsports.

Based on the 963 track model and inspired by the classic 1970s 917, the RSP was lightly adapted for street use, retaining a powerful 10,000 rpm V8 engine. Its public debut will take place during Le Mans race week in France, where the car will follow a specific route and meet its spiritual predecessor, the street-legal 917 made for Count Rossi in 1975.

Although still essentially a race car, the 963 RSP received modifications inside and on the body to make it minimally viable for civilian use. It features softened suspension, raised height, headlights, taillights, turn signals, a rearview camera, and even a 3D-printed cup holder. The interior trim in brown leather and Alcantara references the retro look, while the special silver paint pays tribute to the old 917.

The model will not be sold in dealerships and likely costs more than any production Porsche. Still, the brand does not rule out the possibility of similar projects in the future.

Although it is a unique specimen, Porsche’s enthusiasm for the 963 RSP suggests other special clients might see similar creations emerge.
