An investigation by InformNapalm and Militant Intelligence revealed that a Polish aircraft factory, Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze No. 1, in Łódź, maintained business ties with the Russian defense industry even on the eve of the invasion of Ukraine.
The company, which serves both the Polish Armed Forces and private clients, specializes in the maintenance and modernization of Soviet-origin helicopters and, in recent years, has also worked with Western equipment, including Sikorsky, AgustaWestland, and Eurocopter.
According to the documents obtained, the factory made significant transfers to Russian Helicopters via Sberbank in January 2022, shortly before the war began, totaling around $1.4 million. The payments suggest that the cooperation may have violated international sanctions by providing financial support to the Russian military industry.
Investigators point out that the transferred funds were likely related to the supply of helicopter parts and assemblies, used not only by Russia but also by NATO forces.
Despite political risks and sanctions, the operation gave Russia access to European markets and generated significant revenue for its defense sector.
