The police in the United Kingdom have begun stopping drivers of certain car models that may have dangerous defects in their airbag systems.
This all started after Citroën began informing its customers that some models of the C3 and DS3 are experiencing this potentially dangerous airbag defect.
Now, the police are stopping drivers of these vehicles to warn them about the situation. According to authorities, more than 120,000 cars with these silent defects are currently on the roads in the UK.
“The police are now actively stopping drivers of the affected vehicles, and this is not alarmism: there is a real risk of injury or death if a defective airbag deploys,” said automotive evaluation experts from Parkers, according to a report from Mirror.co.uk.
According to the British outlet’s report, the affected vehicles are second-generation Citroën C3s produced from 2009 to 2016, and first-generation DS3s manufactured from 2016 to 2019.
The French company issued a “mandatory stop order” after a recent report indicated that a woman suffered fatal injuries caused by an airbag in a 2014 Citroën C3 in Reims, France, last year.
As a result, about 82,000 C3 and DS3 models have been taken off the roads across France. No similar case has yet been recorded in the UK, but these cars use Takata airbag systems that may have defects.
