The Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic has signed a long-term contract with Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH for comprehensive maintenance and technical support services for Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks and Bergepanzer 3 Büffel armoured recovery vehicles.
The agreement, signed in Prague on 11 August 2025, will last for seven years and is valued at approximately €250 million. It covers the maintenance of 42 Leopard 2A4 tanks and two Büffel vehicles, including initial and ongoing supply of spare parts, factory repairs, training services, technical and logistical support, as well as the provision of temporary infrastructure and project management.
As part of the contract, Rheinmetall has also committed to cooperating with the Czech defence industry, particularly with the state-owned VOP CZ s.p., focusing on repair and maintenance support, know-how transfer, and local subcontracting. This cooperation was formalised through a letter of intent signed on the same date, in the presence of representatives from the Czech Ministry of Defence.
The vehicles covered by the contract have already been delivered to the Czech Armed Forces by Rheinmetall, with part supplied under orders from the German Federal Government and part acquired directly by the Czech Government, following a process of refurbishment and modernisation.
